Under the supervision of the association sr. director of public relations and communications, the summer interns will gain valuable experience in supporting, planning and implementing public relations and communications programs for the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. The following skills will be developed as well as a keen understanding of how PR and communications can be used to support a nonprofit’s strategic plan and mission. Intern Responsibilities: • Copywriting and design - Research, write, edit and design, essentially create compelling content for the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis, including: o News releases, blogs, newsletters, promotional email and social media posts o Produce supporting video, photography, design and other digital assets for use in promotions; must adhere to YMCA Brand Guidelines and Style Guide. • Help implement enterprise social media plan: o Attend planning meetings, contribute to editorial calendar, run monthly reports, make recommendations. • Assist with media relations/crisis communications: o Draft media advisories and pitches; follow up to secure coverage. o Distribute collateral to news stations, media blitz style as needed. o Monitor media tracking daily, run monthly report, write summary and make recommendations. o Assist in crisis communications response as needed. • Assist with community relations: o Respond to partnership requests from community, civic and private organizations. Determine whether participation would be mutually beneficial and support our mission. o Staff event booths and provide partnership fulfillment as needed.
